4 Girls 4 Harps first live Covid concert!

18 June 2021

On an extremely hot and humid Thursday afternoon, 4 Girls 4 Harps were ecstatic to be able to return to a live performance at Champs Hill in Sussex.

We were due to perform in 2020 as part of our 202th Anniversary celebrations, but sadly Covid19 put pay to this (and may other concerts). We were delighted to be asked to play the first live concert for Champs Hill, post lockdown, to a select audience, but also being broadcast online.

With a programme consisting of musical gems from composers such as Prokofiev, Khachaturian, Borodin, de Falla and Piazzolla, it was an afternoon full of drama and musical fire akin to the heat coming from the outside summer weather!

Champs Hill is a stunning venue, with truly beautiful gardens full of sculptures and works of art. It was a priviledge to be able to perform in such a setting; the harps were shown to perfection, with their majestic finery blending right in with the wonderful array of paintings on the walls behind us.

You can see us busy discussing tempos and interpretation during our rehearsal earlier in the day. Working together and all playing the same instrument certainly has its challenges, but lively debate is what makes the music so stimulating. I wouldn't want to play with any other harpists and I have learnt so much from each of them!
